Senator Imee Marcos is calling on state-run agencies to implement a loan moratorium and contribution relief to assist Filipinos during the current national state of energy emergency.

Senator Marcos specifically urged the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Pag-IBIG Fund, and PhilHealth to temporarily suspend collections.

She noted that rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of basic goods have placed a heavy financial burden on workers, farmers, fisherfolk, and small business owners.

“The crisis in gasoline and crude oil adds to the daily burden of every Filipino, especially our workers. It is only right that we give them at least a month or more of relief in paying their obligations,” Marcos said.

To help citizens keep pace with the rising cost of living, the Senator proposed suspending salary deductions to ensure workers receive their wages in full.

“Let us suspend salary deductions for now and release their wages in full, so they may somehow keep pace with the galloping rise in the cost of living,” she added.

She highlighted that similar relief measures were successfully implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and following previous disasters.

"This is an evolving crisis, which appears to be dragging on longer than anticipated," Marcos stated. "Let us do everything we can to lighten the burden on our people."
