San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President, Chairman, and CEO Ramon S. Ang has acquired a 25.68% stake in Lopez Inc., the parent holding company behind media giant ABS-CBN Corporation.
In an official disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), SMC confirmed that Ang formally notified the corporate secretary of his personal stock acquisition.
The transaction was executed via a Deed of Assignment involving former ABS-CBN and Lopez Holdings Chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III.
Under the agreement, Ang acquired the shares—previously held by Creme Investment Corporation—strictly in his personal capacity through his private holding entity, Ilumina Investment Holdings Inc.
SMC emphasized that the purchase does not draw from corporate funds or affect SMC's balance sheet.
Creme Investment Corporation welcomed the deal, describing Ang as a valuable "partner" to Lopez Inc. and the Lopez family. Meanwhile, Ang is scheduled to brief SMC’s Board of Directors on the details and strategic scope of the purchase during their scheduled board meeting on August 13.
As the ultimate holding entity of the Lopez family, Lopez Inc. maintains controlling stakes in crucial national assets, including media and broadcasting network ABS-CBN Corporation, property developer Rockwell Land Corporation, and clean energy provider First Gen Corporation (under First Philippine Holdings).
