President Marcos urges private firms to adopt flexible work arrangements

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is strongly encouraging private firms to adopt flexible work arrangements.

This measure aims to reduce transportation demand and costs while ensuring workforce stability during the one-year state of national energy emergency period declared by the President on Tuesday when he issued Executive Order No. 110.

The order urges businesses to “support workforce stability by adopting flexible work arrangements where feasible to lessen transportation demand and costs.”

It also calls on the private sector, civil society groups, and other stakeholders to work with government agencies and local government units (LGUs) in delivering logistical assistance, interventions, and essential services to affected sectors and vulnerable communities.

Companies are encouraged to adopt energy-saving measures in their operations and promote fuel-efficient practices among employees and customers.

Marcos likewise urged the private sector to cooperate with authorities in monitoring and enforcing fair pricing to prevent profiteering and hoarding.

In the executive order, Marcos pointed to the “imminent danger” posed by the Middle East conflict to the country’s energy supply, emphasizing that “urgent measures are necessary to ensure the stability and adequacy of the country’s energy supply.”

According to the EO, the declaration allows the government to roll out coordinated and responsive actions to mitigate risks arising from disruptions in global energy supply and their impact on the domestic economy.
