President Marcos: Palawan's Camago-3 well can produce 60 million cubic feet of gas per day

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced the successful drilling and testing of the Camago-3 gas well, a milestone that strengthens the Philippines' energy security and helps protect consumers from volatile global fuel prices.

In a video message posted online, Marcos highlighted the milestone as part of the government’s push to secure reliable and affordable energy.

“My fellow Filipinos, today I am proud to announce another step forward in our mission to secure affordable, reliable energy for every Filipino,” the President said.

The key highlights of the President's announcement include:

• Production capacity: The Camago-3 well has produced up to 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.

• Malampaya Phase 4: This marks the second major achievement of the $893-million campaign. Combined with other new developments, the Camago-3 gas well is expected to extend the operational life of the Malampaya gas field by approximately six years.

• Economic impact: By utilizing indigenous energy sources rather than imported fuel, the government aims to ensure more stable and potentially lower electricity costs for households and businesses.

• Infrastructure modernization: New subsea pipelines are currently being installed—the first such development in Philippine waters since 2000.

The government targets the first gas delivery from the Malampaya Phase 4 wells by the fourth quarter of 2026.

Meanwhile, preparations are already underway for the next drilling site at the Bagong Pag-asa well.

Every unit of power we generate from Malampaya instead of imported fuel is money saved by households, by small businesses, by every Filipino that pays an electric bill,” Marcos said.

He also pointed to the importance of local energy sources amid ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting fuel markets.

“Alam natin lahat kung gaano kahalaga ito ngayon. Ang kaguluhan sa Middle East ay nagdudulot ng matinding pabago-bago sa presyo ng gasolina sa buong mundo,” the President added.

This project, supervised by the Department of Energy, remains a critical part of the national effort to develop local energy resources and reduce reliance on imported fuels.
