President Marcos orders DTI to ensure stable food supply

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has instructed the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to maintain a stable food supply by strengthening coordination with manufacturers and suppliers.

DTI Secretary Maria Cristina Roque said the directive emphasizes constant communication with industry players to ensure adequate supply for consumers.

“Ang directive is to constantly communicate with the manufacturers and the different industries to make sure that there will be enough supply para sa taumbayan,” Roque said in an interview on Friday during the President’s visit to Century Pacific’s distribution center in Laguna.

Roque, who joined the President during the inspection, said the government has been conducting visits to grocery stores and production facilities, including Century Pacific Food, Inc., to check whether there is enough supply of goods for the next one to two months.

She noted that the monitoring covers basic necessities and prime commodities listed under DTI’s price control system.

When asked about possible hoarding, Roque said the agency has not recorded any incidents so far.
