President Marcos: Mitsubishi Motors eyeing production of hybrid electric vehicles in PH

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Japanese automative firm Mitsubishi Motors is considering producing hybrid and electric vehicles in the Philippines.

Marcos made the announcement following a meeting at Malacañang Palace on April 6 with Mitsubishi global CEO Takao Kato.

"Met with Mitsubishi Motors Philippines and global CEO Takao Kato to bring hybrid and electric vehicle production closer to home," Marcos said in a social media post.

Discussions with Kato focused on expanding production of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) under the Philippine government’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) program.

The President noted that this investment reflects strong confidence in the Philippine economy and is expected to create jobs while reducing fuel dependence and costs for drivers.

"Their continued investment reflects strong confidence in our economy. More jobs, less dependence on fuel, lower costs for drivers and more options for every Filipino," the Chief Executive said.

Further details regarding the timeline and specific production plans have not yet been disclosed.
