Malacañang has announced that an energy lockdown or fuel rationing is not expected in the near future, despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro assured the public that there is currently no indication of a worst-case scenario, as authorities are taking proactive steps to secure the country’s energy requirements.
“As we speak, we do not see that happening,” Castro said during a Palace press briefing when asked about the possibility of an energy lockdown.
The assurance comes after the recent declaration of a national energy emergency by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Castro said the declaration is intended to mobilize resources and prevent the situation from escalating.
To stabilize the supply, the government is actively seeking alternative fuel sources from countries such as India, Argentina, and Canada, while coordinating closely with the Department of Energy and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Authorities are also building fuel reserves and implementing measures to ensure a continuous supply for critical sectors.
The administration remains focused on avoiding disruptions and has reiterated that there is no reason for public panic, as the government continues to manage the situation effectively.
