Global e-commerce moratorium on duties on digital downloads and streaming has expired — WTO

YAOUNDE – A global e-commerce moratorium on duties for digital downloads and streaming has officially expired, a senior World Trade Organization (WTO) official said on Monday.

Talks to extend the moratorium, held in Cameroon, ran out of time and will now continue in Geneva, the WTO conference chair told delegates earlier.

Negotiations for a new moratorium are set to begin anew, according to a senior WTO official who requested anonymity.

The discussions reached a deadlock between the United States and Brazil over whether the moratorium should be extended beyond its current two-year term.
