China expects trade momentum to continue despite geopolitical tensions

China is expected to maintain momentum in trade despite ongoing geopolitical tensions, the commerce ministry said on Thursday (March 26).

Commerce Ministry Spokesperson He Yongquian said China’s foreign trade maintained relatively rapid growth during the first two months of the year during a news conference in Beijing.

"Both imports and exports of machinery and electronic products recorded marked growth, reflecting the strong resilience and innovative dynamism of China’s foreign trade sector," she added.

China roared into 2026 with exports far outstripping forecasts before the U.S.-Israel war with Iran that has disrupted global trade.
