Cambodians queue at gas stations as fuel shortage hits Phnom Penh

Cambodian Tuk Tuk drivers started forming long queues at a gas station in Phnom Penh on Tuesday (March 24) to fill LPG gas and gasoline as a fuel shortage grips Cambodia.

Sokimex, a local gas supplier, announced that it will suspend sales from April 1 because of supply disruptions caused by the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. The announcement and price hikes have added to the woes of Tuk Tuk taxi drivers.

"This gas price hike impacted my business that I hardly saved money to support my kids' school fees," said Uch Lout, a Tuk Tuk driver.

As the global fuel crisis continues to push up prices and shortages, Prime Minister Hun Manet on March 19, called for a series of fuel saving measures, including online meetings, reducing long-distance travel and driving during peak times.
