BEIJING - China hopes France can encourage the EU to adopt "positive and reasonable" policies on China and resolve trade differences through dialogue, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told France's top diplomat Emmanuel Bonne during a call on Thursday.
Wang reiterated China's opposition to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's recent remarks about Taiwan and called on France to "continue to firmly uphold the one-China principle," according to a readout of the conversation released by China's foreign ministry. Wand and Bonne also agreed to maintain communication over Ukraine, the ministry said.
French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to China next week and meet China's President Xi Jinping, Macron's office said on Wednesday.
