Minneapolis residents gathered to mourn a 37-year-old woman who was fatally shot by a U.S. immigration agent on Wednesday (January 7) during an immigration enforcement surge, according to local and federal officials.
The Minnesota City Council identified the dead woman as Renee Nicole Good and said she was "out caring for her neighbors this morning and her life was taken today at the hands of the federal government." The council statement also demanded that ICE leave the city immediately.
“A lot of people… move around scared,” said Minneapolis resident Mustafa Hassan. “They don't know if they're going to be actually going to work or school or wherever the destination you need to get to safely and make it back home without being stopped and going through all that process.”
The Trump administration said the agent had fired in self-defense, but Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey adamantly rejected the assertion, saying video of the shooting directly contradicted what he called the government's "garbage narrative”.
