Magnitude 6.6 earthquake jolts Davao Occidental but no tsunami threat
An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Sarangani, Davao Occidental in Mindanao on Friday (June 26, 2026), the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said.

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck Davao Occidental in Mindanao on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolc)s said.
The quake that struck 90 kilometers (km) southwest of Balut Island in Davao Occidental province had a depth of 10 km, Phivolcs said, adding that aftershocks were expected, but there was no threat of a tsunami.
The powerful quake comes weeks after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that also struck Mindanao on June 8.
The death toll from the June 8 quake has risen to 81 with more than a thousand people injured, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD).
The Philippine News Agency said the following intensities have been reported:
- Intensity V: Kiamba, Sarangani
- Intensity IV: Don Marcelino and Santa Maria, Davao Occidental
- Intensity III: Davao City; Matanao, Davao del Sur
- Intensity II: Digos City, Davao del Sur; Monkayo, Mawab, and Maragusan, Davao de Oro
Instrumental intensities were also recorded across Sarangani, South Cotabato, Davao Occidental, Sultan Kudarat, and Cotabato, ranging from Intensity V to Intensity I.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected but there is currently no tsunami threata from the earthquake.
