A protest sign that read "No Kings" was lit up on a mountain slope over Davos on Tuesday (January 20) night, on the eve of United States President Donald Trump's visit to the World Economic Forum.

"No Kings" is a slogan that has been used by protesters denouncing what they view as the authoritarian tendencies and unbridled corruption of President Trump.

Trump will attend this year's annual meeting in person on Wednesday (January 21), after addressing the gathering by video link last year. He will be accompanied by a large U.S. delegation.

His appearance in the Swiss mountain resort highlights the gap between his agenda and the consensus-driven approach of the WEF, which has faced enduring criticism that it is a talking shop of the rich.
