YEARENDER-Soccer: Liverpool win the English Premier League, Napoli win Italy's Serie A

Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Napoli lift domestic league titles as Europe’s top clubs celebrate triumphant seasons.

Liverpool win the English Premier League

Liverpool won the Premier League title in manager Arne Slot's first season in charge after taking over from Juergen Klopp.

His side secured a record-equalling 20th English title with four games remaining, matching Manchester United's English titles record.

There was tragedy in the summer break for the club, however, when 28-year-old Portuguese forward Diogo Jota died in a car crash in Spain alongside his brother Andre Silva.

Barcelona win Spain's LaLiga

Barcelona won LaLiga and the Copa del Rey in Spain to mark an exceptional first season for coach Hansi Flick.

Young star Lamine Yamal captivated fans' attention as Barcelona clinched their 28th LaLiga title ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid who they also beat in the Copa del Rey final.

Barcelona gained a third trophy of the season with the Spanish Super Cup in January.

Bayern Munich win the German Bundesliga

In Germany, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga in Vincent Kompany's first year in charge.

The Bavarians, helped by 26 league goals from England captain Harry Kane, are no strangers to lifting the "Meisterschale", the Bundesliga's salad bowl-shaped trophy, with the team having won the domestic league 34 times.

The trophy ceremony in Munich's central Marienplatz Square also doubled as a farewell for 35-year-old Thomas Mueller, who had announced at the beginning of April that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season after they decided not to offer the experienced forward a contract extension.

Mueller joined Bayern aged 10, helping them to 13 championships, six German Cups, eight Super Cups and two Champions League trophies.

Napoli win Italy's Serie A

Antonio Conte's Napoli won the Serie A trophy for the fourth time in their history.

Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku scored to secure a comfortable 2-0 victory over Cagliari as Napoli won their second Scudetto in three years by one point from Inter Milan.

Conte, who won three Serie A titles as manager of Juventus and one at Inter Milan along with a Premier League trophy with Chelsea, had been handed the responsibility of reviving Napoli after a disastrous title defence in the 2023-24 campaign.

Napoli endured a turbulent 2023-24 campaign, finishing 10th and going through three managers after coach Luciano Spalletti left the club. Spalletti had led them to their first Scudetto title in 33 years in the 2022-23 season.
