YEARENDER-Soccer: England win the women's Euros, Paris St. Germain win the Men's Champions League

A historic season of football glory: England, PSG, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Flamengo lift major titles across Europe and South America.

England win the women's Euros

Chloe Kelly fired the decisive spot kick as England beat Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout to win the UEFA Women's Euro 2025, successfully defending the title they won three years ago after an enthralling encounter that ended 1-1 after extra time.

Spain dominated possession and made the breakthrough in the 25th minute as Ona Batlle crossed and the England defence was caught flat-footed, allowing Mariona Caldentey to head the ball past Hannah Hampton.

However, England levelled in the 57th minute, with Alessia Russo heading home from a Kelly cross.

Spain continued to monopolise the ball but could not find another goal before the end of normal time, and the story continued through extra time as they probed and probed, but could not break through the English defence as the game finished 1-1.

The Spaniards got the shootout off to a great start when Cata Coll saved Beth Mead's effort, but England keeper Hannah Hampton stepped up and saved from Caldentey and then from Aitana Bonmati to put England in the driving seat.

Coll got Spain back into it with another one-handed stop to block Leah Williamson, but Spain substitute Salma Paralluelo then fired her kick wide of the target.

That set the stage for Kelly to repeat her 2022 heroics, when she scored the extra-time winner over Germany that won them the title at Wembley.

Kelly made her trademark prancing run-up before smashing the ball into the net and peeling away in ecstasy to celebrate with the rest of the players in front of the England fans.

The final was the first time since the inaugural edition in 1984, in which England were beaten by Sweden, that the game was decided by a penalty shootout.

Following the tournament veteran England defender Lucy Bronze admitted that she had played the entire tournament with a fractured leg.

Paris St Germain win the Men's Champions League

Paris St Germain crushed Inter Milan 5-0 to win their first Champions League title and in the process, become the first French club to clinch the treble.

Desire Doue scored twice to inspire Luis Enrique's side to their first European Cup triumph.

Doue, 19, produced a dazzling display, setting up Achraf Hakimi to open the scoring from close range after 12 minutes before doubling the lead with a deflected effort eight minutes later.

He put the outcome beyond doubt with a crisp finish into the bottom corner in the 63rd minute before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ran free to bury PSG's fourth goal and substitute Senny Mayulu completed the rout.

After losing in the final to Bayern Munich in 2020, Luis Enrique's side, who teetered on the brink of elimination in the league phase this season, finally claimed the trophy their big-spending Qatari owners have craved.

Arsenal win the Women's Champions League

Arsenal forward Stina Blackstenius struck a late winner as the London team shocked holders Barcelona 1-0 to claim their second Women's Champions League title.

Arsenal withstood a flurry of Barca chances before Sweden's Blackstenius broke the deadlock in the 75th minute when she latched onto fellow substitute Beth Mead's reverse pass in a crowded penalty area and fired a low diagonal shot past goalkeeper Catalina Coll at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Renee Slegers's Gunners, who were making just their second appearance in the final in 18 years, having won Europe's top competition in 2007, held on for a stunning victory to the delight of their 5,000 travelling fans.

The win comes against a mighty Barcelona team playing in their sixth final in seven years and who had hoisted the trophy in three of the past four campaigns.

Tottenham Hotspur win the Europa League

Tottenham Hotspur won a scrappy Europa League final 1-0 against Manchester United to salvage their season and earn a berth in next year's Champions League thanks to Brennan Johnson's bundled first-half goal.

It was Spurs' first silverware since the 2008 League Cup and their first European trophy since 1984, but the fourth time they had beaten United this season.

Johnson scored in the 42nd minute when United's defence crumbled as Pape Sarr swung in a cross while goalkeeper Andre Onana remained rooted to his line. Johnson and United defender Luke Shaw rushed in and the ball appeared to glance off both of them and in, past Onana's desperate swipe.

The goal was as scrappy as the game in a matchup of teams who have had wildly disappointing Premier League seasons, with United languishing in 16th and Spurs 17th.

The victory was not enough to keep manager Australian Ange Postecoglou in a job, he was replaced by Dane Thomas Frank who moved from London rivals Brentford.

Chelsea win the European Conference League and Club World Cup

Chelsea sparked into life in the second half as they came from behind to claim the Conference League trophy with a 4-1 victory over Real Betis, their revival inspired by the creativity of Cole Palmer.

Goals from Enzo Fernandez and Nicolas Jackson - both set up by the excellent Palmer - plus late strikes from Jadon Sancho and Moises Caicedo secured the silverware after Betis went in 1-0 up at halftime thanks to an early Abde Ezzalzouli strike.

Palmer's two assists in five minutes during the second half turned the match around for Premier League club Chelsea and his efforts saw him named Player of the Match.

The victory means Chelsea are the first team to have won all three European competitions, having lifted the Champions League twice along with two Europa League trophies in their history. They have also won the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup.

Enzo Maresca's side then went on to win the expanded Club World Cup.

Palmer again producing a scintillating first-half masterclass as Chelsea demolished a flat Paris St Germain 3-0 to win a one-sided final at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium.

The English attacking midfielder scored twice and provided an assist for Joao Pedro in a devastating display in the revamped tournament's decider that left the European and French champions, who finished with 10 men, shell-shocked.

After a stunning season, PSG were heavy favourites, while Chelsea arrived in the U.S. after winning Europe's third-tier Conference League and on the back of a domestic campaign in which they just managed a top-four Premier League finish.

Flamengo win the Copa Libertadores

Flamengo secured their fourth Copa Libertadores title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Palmeiras at the Estadio Monumental in Lima.

The decisive moment came in the 67th minute, as Danilo headed home from a corner to break the deadlock. The result helped the Rio de Janeiro club extend Brazil's dominance in the tournament to a seventh consecutive year.
