SOCCER: Norwegian coach Hareide dies at 72
Former Norway and Denmark coach Age Hareide has died at 72 after battling brain cancer, his family confirmed. He leaves a lasting legacy across Scandinavian football, highlighted by Denmark’s run to the last 16 at the 2018 World Cup and trophy success with multiple clubs.

Former Norwegian national team coach and defender Age Hareide has died at the age of 72, his family confirmed to Norwegian media on Thursday.
In November, it was announced that Hareide, who previously managed both Norway and Denmark, had been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Hareide served as head coach of Denmark from 2016 to 2020, leading the team to the round of 16 at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He also coached Norway from 2003 to 2008.
At the club level, Hareide enjoyed success across Scandinavia. He won trophies while managing Denmark’s Brondby, Sweden’s Malmo and Helsingborgs, as well as Norway’s Rosenborg.
His final coaching role was with the Iceland national team before he retired in November last year.
As a player, Hareide featured for Molde, Manchester City, and Norwich City. He earned 50 international caps for Norway between 1976 and 1986. -Reporting by Tommy Lund in Gdansk; Editing by Ken Ferris/Reuters
