NUMBER CODING SCHEME

The number coding scheme in Metro Manila is officially known as the Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Scheme (UVVRP).

According to the official website of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the UVVRP was developed in 1995 to ration road space in Metro Manila as a way to improve the traffic situation.

Vehicles are restricted from using major Metro Manila roads on certain days and hours based on the last digit of their plate numbers.

Private vehicles with plate numbers end in 1 or 2 are restricted from public roads in Metro Manila on Mondays.

The pattern then continues until Friday when vehicles with plate numbers that end either with 9 or 0 are not allowed on public roads in Metro Manila.

Monday: Private vehicles with plate numbers ending in 1 or 2

Tuesday: Private vehicles with plate numbers ending in 3 or 4

Wednesday: Private vehicles with plate numbers ending in 5 or 6

Thursday: Private vehicles with plate numbers ending in 7 or 8

Friday: Private vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 or 0
