Adam Peaty has set his sights on continuing his remarkable career, aiming for a spot in his fourth Olympics at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. The six-time Olympic medalist made a strong statement at the Aquatic Great Britain Swimming Championships, securing a victory in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 58.97 seconds.
Peaty's win saw him finish ahead of world junior champion Filip Nowacki, who clocked in at 59.39 seconds, and Max Morgan, who posted a time of 59.56 seconds. Despite his triumph, Peaty remained focused on his long-term goals.
"I didn’t think I could get that result, so that’s now the marker, that’s the baseline. Now, how do we turn that into a low 57 again?" Peaty told reporters. "For me, I’m a racer, and I just want to extract the best of myself."
The 28-year-old’s time was the second-best of the season, trailing only Japanese swimmer Shin Ohashi's 58.67 seconds. Peaty had anticipated posting a time over 59 seconds but was pleasantly surprised with the result.
"I just said to myself, 'What have I got to lose?' And it was nothing, so why not give everything and risk it. And it worked out," he said.
Peaty's commitment to the sport remains unwavering. "I train every single day, pretty much. I enjoy swimming, so I want as much time in the water as I can," he added.
In addition to his ongoing training, Peaty plans to add the 50-meter breaststroke to his Olympic program. Should he compete in 2028, Peaty could make history as the oldest British swimmer to win an Olympic gold medal at 33 years old.
