MUNICH, Germany – Bayern Munich fell short in their Champions League semifinal as Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the final with a 6-5 aggregate win following a 1-1 draw in Germany on Wednesday. PSG will face Arsenal in the final on May 30.

Bayern, chasing a treble this season, struggled to match PSG’s clinical finishing. The German side had lost the first leg in Paris 5-4 after trailing 5-2 early in the second half.

“I think we didn’t have the killer instinct in attack today,” Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer said, after making several key saves. “We created chances, but not clear-cut ones to score when it mattered.”

Bayern fell behind just three minutes into the match and spent the rest of the game trying to catch up. Despite dominating possession, they missed multiple opportunities to turn the tie around.

“Of course it’s bitter. We lost both games against a very strong opponent,” Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said. “We needed to be more decisive. The Champions League is over for us this season, but there will be another chance—and that’s motivation for me.”

Harry Kane scored a late equalizer in stoppage time, but it was too late to overturn the aggregate deficit. Neuer noted PSG’s sharpness in front of goal as the deciding factor.

“When you get chances, you have to finish. Look at Paris—they were killers in the first leg,” said Neuer, whose future at Bayern remains uncertain. “We were close, but we couldn’t finish the job.”

Neuer added, “Our goal came too late. We had the stadium and support, but in Paris’ penalty area, we just weren’t clinical enough.” -Reporting by Karolos GrohmannEditing by Toby Davis/Reuters
