SOCCER: Ramsey shocked by early contract termination at Pumas

Aaron Ramsey expressed surprise and disappointment after his contract with Mexico's Pumas UNAM was terminated, despite being ready to return to action following injuries and personal matters. The 34-year-old midfielder, who joined the club in July, made only six appearances.

MEXICO CITY – Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey expressed his surprise at the termination of his contract with Mexico's Pumas UNAM, stating that he was eager to stay and return to the pitch after an injury and personal matters had sidelined him.

Ramsey, 34, joined Pumas in July from Cardiff City, following notable spells at Arsenal, Juventus, and Rangers. The experienced midfielder was optimistic about his recovery, declaring himself "ready and match fit" to play in the remaining fixtures of the Clausura tournament. However, he was informed that his contract had been rescinded, which forced him to return home to Wales.

In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram on Monday, Ramsey thanked the people of Mexico for their warmth and hospitality, which made him and his family feel at home in Mexico City.

"I would like to thank the Mexican people for their kindness and generosity and making me and my family feel so welcome in Mexico City," Ramsey wrote.

"I was looking forward to giving my best. Unfortunately, my contract was terminated, which was a surprise and obviously disappointing. Therefore, I had no choice but to come home to Wales."

During his brief tenure at Pumas, Ramsey made only six appearances, scoring once in a period plagued by injuries. His time at the club was cut short after a muscle injury sustained just ahead of the October international window, and personal issues related to the search for his missing dog in central Mexico.

Local media sources reported that Ramsey’s departure followed a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, with both the injury and personal matters cited as contributing factors. -Reporting by Janina Nuno Rios in Mexico City; Editing by Thomas Derpinghaus/Reuters
