NBA: Nikola Jokic takes all-time assist crown among centers

Jamal Murray’s 32 points and Nikola Jokic’s historic triple-double powered Denver past Orlando as Jokic became the NBA’s all-time assist leader among centers, while Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and LaMelo Ball delivered standout performances across a packed night of NBA action. Multiple overtime thrillers, franchise comebacks and milestone moments highlighted an eventful slate around the league.

Jamal Murray scored 32 points while Nikola Jokic recorded 23 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds as the Denver Nuggets defeated the Orlando Magic 126–115 on Thursday night.


Jokic made history by passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most career assists by a center. The Denver star now has 5,667 assists, seven more than Abdul-Jabbar, ranking 50th all-time in NBA history.


Cameron Johnson added 19 points and 11 rebounds, Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 12, Bruce Brown finished with 11 points, and Jonas Valanciunas chipped in 10 for Denver, which has won six straight games.


Paolo Banchero led Orlando with 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists for the third triple-double of his career and his first this season. Wendell Carter Jr. also scored 26 points, while Anthony Black added 22 for the Magic, who have lost three of their last four games.


Pelicans 133, Rockets 128 (OT)


Saddiq Bey scored 29 points, Trey Murphy III added 27, and New Orleans completed a franchise-record-tying comeback to defeat visiting Houston in overtime.


The Pelicans trailed by 22 points at halftime and by as many as 25 early in the third quarter. A 36–20 surge in the fourth quarter fueled the rally, capped by Derik Queen’s two clutch free throws with 9.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Queen finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds.


Kevin Durant scored a game-high 32 points for Houston. Alperen Sengun followed with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.


Thunder 122, Clippers 101


Shai Gilgeous-Alexander recorded 32 points, seven rebounds, and six assists as Oklahoma City cruised to a home victory over Los Angeles.


The Thunder improved to 13-0 at home and have won 17 of their last 18 games. Chet Holmgren scored 22 points, while Jalen Williams added 20. Gilgeous-Alexander did not play in the fourth quarter.


Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 22 points, and John Collins added 20. Los Angeles has lost five straight games and played without James Harden due to a left calf contusion.


Knicks 114, Pacers 113


Jalen Brunson hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 5.6 seconds remaining and finished with 25 points as New York rallied past Indiana in Indianapolis.


Jordan Clarkson scored 18 points, Tyler Kolek posted a career-high 16 points and 11 assists, and the Knicks extended their winning streak to six games despite missing Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, and Mitchell Robinson.


Andrew Nembhard led Indiana with 31 points, while Pascal Siakam scored 26, including 11 in the fourth quarter.


Mavericks 116, Pistons 114 (OT)


Cooper Flagg tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Anthony Davis scored two key baskets in overtime as Dallas held off Detroit.


Naji Marshall scored 16 points, while Davis finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Mavericks, who blew an 18-point lead before securing their sixth win in eight games.


Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 29 points, nine assists, and 10 rebounds. Jalen Duren added 17 points and 13 rebounds. Ausar Thompson was ejected in the second quarter after making contact with an official.


Lakers 143, Jazz 135


Luka Doncic delivered a dominant performance with 45 points, 14 assists, 11 rebounds, and five steals as Los Angeles defeated Utah in Salt Lake City.


LeBron James contributed 28 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds as the Lakers swept the Jazz in their three meetings this season.


Keyonte George led Utah with 34 points and eight assists. Isaiah Collier had 18 points and 13 assists off the bench. The Jazz played without Lauri Markkanen due to a groin injury.


Trail Blazers 134, Kings 133 (OT)


Deni Avdija scored a career-high 35 points and made two free throws with 1.5 seconds left in overtime to lift Portland over Sacramento.


DeMar DeRozan scored 33 points, including 14 in overtime, for the Kings. Shaedon Sharpe added 26 points for Portland, which has won two straight.


Rookie Maxime Raynaud posted career bests of 29 points and 11 rebounds, while Russell Westbrook added 20 points and 10 assists for Sacramento, which has lost four in a row.


Heat 106, Nets 95


Norman Powell scored 24 points as Miami snapped a season-worst five-game losing streak with a road win over Brooklyn.


Kel’el Ware recorded 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Bam Adebayo grabbed a season-high 17 rebounds for the Heat despite scoring just eight points.


Michael Porter Jr. led the Nets with 28 points. Brooklyn shot just 22.4 percent from 3-point range.


Hornets 133, Hawks 126


LaMelo Ball returned from injury with 28 points and 13 assists as Charlotte defeated Atlanta.


Ball made seven of nine 3-pointers in the first half and finished 10-for-16 from the field. Kon Knueppel added 28 points, and Brandon Miller scored 26 as the Hornets shot 49 percent from beyond the arc.


Jalen Johnson scored 43 points with 11 rebounds and nine assists for the Hawks. Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 28 points.


Raptors 111, Bucks 105


Brandon Ingram scored 29 points as Toronto defeated Milwaukee, which played without Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kyle Kuzma.


Scottie Barnes added 24 points and 11 rebounds as the Raptors earned their second straight win.


Bobby Portis led the Bucks with 24 points and 12 rebounds off the bench. Kevin Porter Jr. had 22 points and 13 assists.


Spurs 119, Wizards 94


Dylan Harper scored a career-high 24 points off the bench to lead San Antonio past Washington.


Victor Wembanyama contributed 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and four blocks in limited minutes as he continues to work back from a calf injury.


Alex Sarr led the Wizards with 18 points, while Bub Carrington added 15.


Suns 99, Warriors 98


Devin Booker scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half, and Jordan Goodwin hit the winning free throw with 0.4 seconds remaining as Phoenix edged Golden State.


Dillon Brooks scored 24 points, Collin Gillespie added 16, and Oso Ighodaro grabbed 13 rebounds for the Suns.
