NBA roundup: Hornets prevail, hold Cavs to zero points in OT

Charlotte Hornets blank the Cavaliers in overtime, 119-111, with Kon Knueppel scoring 29 points and Brandon Miller adding 25 points and 13 rebounds. Meanwhile, LeBron James' clutch free throws and a game-winning block lead the Lakers to a dramatic 116-114 win over the Suns.

Kon Knueppel scored 29 points, and Brandon Miller added 25 points along with a career-high 13 rebounds as the visiting Charlotte Hornets pitched a shutout in overtime, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-111 on Sunday.


Cleveland became the 12th team to be blanked in overtime, the first since the Chicago Bulls shut out the Minnesota Timberwolves on Nov. 7, 2015. Miles Bridges posted 20 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists for Charlotte, which blew a 17-point lead in the second half. The Hornets earned just their second victory in the last six games and are now 6-17 since October 28.


For Cleveland, Darius Garland scored a season-high 26 points, while Donovan Mitchell had 17 points on 6-of-24 shooting. Jaylon Tyson added 16 points and a career-best 13 rebounds off the bench as Cleveland lost for the sixth time in nine games.


Atlanta Hawks 120, Philadelphia 76ers 117

Dyson Daniels scored a season-high 27 points to help Atlanta defeat visiting Philadelphia. The win marked the Hawks’ seventh consecutive victory over the 76ers. Daniels was efficient, going 13-for-19 from the field, and matched his season high with 10 rebounds. Jalen Johnson recorded his fourth straight triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, setting a franchise record with his eighth career triple-double.


Philadelphia's Paul George led all scorers with a season-high 35 points, and Joel Embiid contributed 22 points and 14 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Rookie guard V.J. Edgecombe scored 26 points.


Washington Wizards 108, Indiana Pacers 89

Marvin Bagley III posted season highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds, leading Washington to a dominant win in Indianapolis. The Wizards held Indiana to 36.9% shooting from the floor, securing a comfortable victory.


Justin Champagnie matched Bagley’s game-high with 14 boards, while Kyshawn George flirted with a triple-double, contributing nine points, nine assists, and eight rebounds. CJ McCollum added 18 points for Washington.


Bennedict Mathurin led Indiana with 15 points, while Jay Huff, Jarace Walker, and Isaiah Jackson each added double-digit points off the bench.


Minnesota Timberwolves 117, Sacramento Kings 103

Julius Randle recorded 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Naz Reid added 20 points and 11 rebounds, fueling Minnesota to a solid win over Sacramento in Minneapolis.


Jaden McDaniels also chipped in with 21 points, while Donte DiVincenzo and Bones Hyland each added 18 points. The Timberwolves have now won seven of their last eight games.


Sacramento was led by DeMar DeRozan, Precious Achiuwa, and Dennis Schroder, each scoring 17 points. Schroder made his return from a seven-game absence due to a hip issue.


Portland Trail Blazers 136, Golden State Warriors 131

Jerami Grant and Shaedon Sharpe each scored 35 points as Portland withstood a 48-point explosion from Stephen Curry to defeat Golden State.


Grant and Sharpe combined for 12 three-pointers, leading Portland to shoot 51.3% (20 of 39) from beyond the arc. Curry was 12-for-19 from three-point range, just one shy of his career high.


Jimmy Butler III added 16 points for Golden State, while Draymond Green filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.


Brooklyn Nets 127, Milwaukee Bucks 82

Rookie Egor Demin scored 17 points to lead Brooklyn to a 45-point victory over Milwaukee, the largest margin in franchise history.


Demin had been publicly criticized by coach Jordi Fernandez for his quiet showing in a previous loss, and he responded with one of his best performances of the season. Gary Trent Jr. scored 20 points for Milwaukee, but the Bucks shot just 39.2% from the field, dropping to 2-8 without Giannis Antetokounmpo this season.


New Orleans Pelicans 114, Chicago Bulls 104

Trey Murphy III and Jeremiah Fears each scored 20 points, while Zion Williamson returned from a six-game absence to contribute 18 points and six rebounds as New Orleans defeated Chicago.


Jordan Poole added 16 points for the Pelicans, who secured their second road win of the season. Coby White led the Bulls with 20 points, but Chicago fell to its fourth straight home loss.


Los Angeles Lakers 116, Phoenix Suns 114

LeBron James provided the decisive moment for Los Angeles, hitting two free throws with 3 seconds left, then blocking Grayson Allen's potential game-winning three-pointer as the Lakers survived a wild finish to defeat Phoenix.


Luka Doncic finished with 29 points, and James contributed 26 points as the Lakers overcame a 77-71 deficit. Devin Booker scored 27 points for Phoenix, but it was not enough as the Suns fell despite outshooting the Lakers overall. -Field Level Media/Reuters
